The Big Picture
India is the world’s second largest producer and second largest consumer of finished steel.
Growth has been driven by infrastructure spending, construction activity, railways, real estate and a steady rise in government capital expenditure.
TMT bars, the primary product used in residential and commercial construction, sit directly in the path of this demand.
German Green Steel and Power (GGSPL) is one such player which operates in this industry.
Business Model Explained
The company turns raw scrap and iron ore into Sponge Iron, then MS Billets, then finished TMT Bars, all within its Samakhiyali facility.
There is also a second facility at Viramgam which runs through its subsidiary, ‘German TMT Private Limited’.

TMT Bars is their flagship product, sold under the brand “German TMT.”
- Manufactured using Thermex quenching technology, a process that is meant to improve yield strength, ductility and corrosion resistance.
- Both facilities’ output carries a Green Steel certificate from the National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology: 4-star for GGSPL.
- 5-star, the highest possible rating for its subsidiary ‘German TMT Private Limited’.
Combined installed TMT Bar capacity across both facilities is about ~3 lakh MTPA.
GGSPL sells through distributors, dealers and direct institutional customers in roadways, engineering, thermal power and real estate, while the business remains heavily concentrated in Gujarat.
In April 2025, the company signed a three-year contract manufacturing agreement with JSW One Distribution Limited, its first step outside the traditional dealer network.
Adding on this, in FY26 they have made sales in international markets like Cape Verde, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. This contributed around ~1% of total revenue from operations.
Why is it named “German Green Steel”?
- The company lowers its carbon footprint using a solar-wind hybrid power system and a Waste Heat Recovery Plant (WHRP). By converting exhaust heat directly into electricity, the facility significantly lowers its reliance on extra coal.
- Thermex quenching technology was originally developed in Germany.
Unit Economics

- Revenue per tonne actually fell in FY26, from ₹60,611 to ₹52,151, yet EBITDA per tonne and PAT per tonne both rose. The gain did not come from pricing. It came from utilisation.
- Increase in utilisation helped the company spread its fixed costs over a much larger volume.
Operating Metrics
- Revenue Mix by Product: TMT Bars have gone from 63% of revenue in FY24 to nearly 79% in FY26.

- Capacity Utilisation: Combined TMT Bar utilisation jumped from 72% in FY25 to 88% in FY26. This swing is the real story behind the margin improvement.

- Revenue Mix by Customer Channel: Dealer revenue has grown nearly ten-fold since FY24 to ₹351 Cr broadening the base beyond distributors and institutional buyers.

The Financial Stuff: From Revenue to PAT

- Revenue from operations grew at a CAGR of 22% between FY24 and FY26, while EBITDA and PAT grew at a higher rate.
- Margin expansion is the story here largely on the back of the capacity utilisation gains discussed in Section 3.
German Green Steel’s Peers

- On return on net worth, GGSPL’s 19% trails only Kamdhenu among the peer group.
- Revenue places GGSPL in the middle of the peer set.
At the upper price band of ₹139, German Green Steel & Power is trading at a P/E of 13, while its peers are trading at an average P/E of 17.
Key Risks
- Cyclical demand and pricing: TMT Bar, MS Billet and Sponge Iron prices move with the construction cycle.
- Geographic concentration: The business is concentrated in Gujarat, with the state contributing 98% of FY26 revenue.
